Holistic Maternity and Child Sleep Consultant

As a Holistic Sleep Consultant, I will help you deal with sleeping challenges such as: frequent overnight wakings, daily naps that are not happening, battle before sleep, early risers, transition from shared bed to own cot/bed, transition from parents’ room to own room…

With focus on the emotional well-being of the baby/child and the family in general, and applying a holistic perspective, our consultancy is a respectful and gentle process, through which families will learn the foundations of sleep (information with scientific evidence) and strategies – temperament and age appropriated – to communicate the changes to the child and then start creating new habits where it’s necessary and where families choose to do so.

Please, see our packages below or click here to know more about our sleep consultancy process.

In this package, I’ll help you understand the sleep of a newborn, I’ll give you strategies to understand their cries and meet their needs (Dr. Karp’s 5s, use of sling/carriers, establishing little routines in certain times of the day, among others), I’ll share with you how and when you can start creating good sleep habits (what will prevent sleep challenges in the future – we’ll talk about them too), I will show you there’s no such a thing as a newborn sleeping through the night, but that it’s still possible to have a healthy sleep. Postpartum Doula

As a postpartum doula, I’ll do everything possible to promote your wellbeing in the first weeks or months after delivery. The postpartum period is an intense one, when lots of different things happen at the same time: your body is recovering from all the changes from pregnancy and delivery, your body is going through new changes so that you breastfeed, some of your hormones are down low now (like  progesterone) while others are up high (like prolactin, which makes you more susceptible and sentimental, and oxytocin). Your life suddenly changes completely: you got a newborn totally dependent on you, if it’s your first child you’re learning how to take care of him/her, you deal with sleep deprivation, you don’t have time to do what you did before (house chores, for example), the world around you in your daily life is not familiar and you can feel lost, as if you don’t know who you are anymore.

The postpartum period is certainly the most intense one in the life of women who become a mother, and you don’t have to go through everything on your own. It’s ok to need help and to ask for help.

New mums need someone to look after them, to mother them, so that they can mother their baby.

It goes beyond what Plunket does for you – a very important job, no doubt, but with more focus on the clinical health of the baby and yours. A postpartum doula complements what Plunket or Tamariki Ora do – we don’t do any clinical performance, we’re not trained for that. We’re trained to help you:

– with the challenges of breastfeeding (when you choose to breastfeed)

– understand what is normal during these first few weeks or months after birth

– understand your own feelings

– with looking after a newborn or older baby (with tips to deal with crying, sleeping, breastfeeding, bathing time, establishing a routine…)

– have some time for yourself (even if a little one) to do whatever you want (bath? nap? a quiet cup of tea?)

– find other professionals you may need (lactation consultant, postnatal depression specialist, massage therapist and others)

– organise food for yourself and family

– with light house chores.

Every detail makes a difference for your postpartum experience. A Postpartum Doula can help you with lots of them.

I offer various formats of service, so you find one that suits you. Strict confidentiality is guaranteed.

LIFE-CHANGING PACKAGES  (Wellington/NZ)

Ideally a postpartum doula will meet you once or twice before your baby is born, so we can talk about the postpartum period for you to know what to expect, and especially to help you prepare for that. Together we can organise a postpartum plan (your needs, support crew, food, house chores, older children, breastfeeding “stations” and accessories…)  which will help you have a smoother transition to motherhood.

ONLINE SUPPORT (wherever you are!)

Sometimes during the postpartum period all you need is someone to talk to openly, with no fear of being judged or misunderstood. An online consultation with a postnatal doula is perfect in this case.

In our conversation – on skype, messenger (video), duo or any other application you prefer to use – you’ll be able to share your feelings (and I will normalise them for you), to solve doubts you may have about taking care of the baby and of yourself, about breastfeeding, or anything else you’d like to talk. You will have scientific based information and tips to deal with the challenges with confidence and comfort. You’ll certainly leave our conversation satisfied and happy about the choices you’re making in the beginning of your motherhood journey.

We will allow a whole hour for the start of our session, because we know during the postpartum period things can be unpredictable and it may be hard to be on time. For instance, we will set from 1pm-2pm, I will be connected and available during the whole hour and you can call me whenever you’re ready. Only then we consider the session started. Each online session takes between 60 and 90 minutes.

NZ$ 85.00

**Prices reviewed in April/2018.
